*Late* Lunch Break:
Five Stylish (and Simple) Sweaters for Guys

This post was inspired by one of my guy friends who owns only a few pullover sweaters and absolutely NO CARDIGANS!  I thought this very hard to believe, so I've put together this set in order to give those who are sweater-challenged options for staying warm this Fall.

Photobucket

1) Striped Cardigan @ Target
2) Button Mockneck @ Brooks Brothers
3) Shawl Collar Cardigan @ H&M
4) Pescadero Cardigan @ Dockers
5) Wool Blend Cardigan @ Old Navy

I tried to keep this mini collection simple with basic colors and minimal pattern.  Pairing each sweater with a tee or long sleeved shirt that "pops" (i.e. a teal shirt with the white sweater, a green shirt with the burgundy cardigan, etc.) will easily boost your wardrobe for the season at hand.  No more excuses!

So you want to dress like...
Arthur Darvill from Doctor Who

This post has been a long time in coming!  Due to various moving an internet issues, I've been absent for a little over two weeks.  I'm excited to be back and bringing you all the necessary fashion information important for your daily lives.  Okay, okay, so maybe it's not that serious, but I'm excited to be back all the same; sharing my love of fashion with all of you.

Today's post rounds out the trifecta of Doctor Who stars and their incredible fashion sense. Arthur Darvill is our focus today.  Arthur portrays Rory Williams/Pond - husband to Karen Gillan's character, Amy Pond, and second companion to the Doctor.  Like with our two previous actors, we'll be focusing on Arthur's personal style and how you, the reader, can emulate it.

Street Style

Casual, public appearance Arthur is undeniably fun.  The patterned sweater paired with graphic tee really makes this look stand out.  The vintage sunglasses add a "hipster"-type touch.  Though you can't see the shoes or pants Arthur wears in this picture, I thought it best to pair the loud top portion of this outfit with a simple pair of jeans.  I also chose Chuck Taylors due to the fact that Arthur seems to favor them in much of his outfits.

Pheasants, Pheasants Everywhere

I couldn't pass up the...uniqueness of this look when I first spotted it.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a sweater that was exactly like Arthur's, but I did find one that was pretty close.  It still features pheasants, which seems to be the important feature with this entire outfit.  I found a set of cheap bird print pins on Etsy to add that special touch to the crewneck. Paired with the sweater is a polka dot dress shirt and red chinos.  Again, Chuck Taylors round out the outfit.  I've chosen some simple, neutral colored shoes due to the rest of the outfit being somewhat "loud".

I'll be returning within the week to feature some hot looks for fall.  If you have anything you'd like to see here, please (as always) feel free to comment or Facebook message me.  I love to hear what readers have to say!

So you want to dress like...Karen Gillan from Doctor Who

I'm back again with another Doctor Who related post. This time, we'll be looking at Karen Gillan - co-star of Matt Smith and the Doctor's companion - for fashion inspiration.

Once working as a model during London Fashion Week, Karen is no stranger to the glam and glitz of the runway. Winning the Cosmopolitan "Woman of the Year" award, the Scottish Fashion Icon award, and TV Choice's "Best Dressed" for 2012, she is clearly at the height of style.

Today I'm bringing you two examples of premiere Karen Gillan outfits and my own interpretations of each for your own wearing pleasure.

Stripes & Hardware

This outfit of Karen's is one of the first she had worn out an about for a press tour. From day one, I have adored the sweater she is wearing. I felt like I had to use this look as the first for my post. There was no other way to go about it.

Because color is my friend (and yours), I decided to pair this sweater with a brightly colored skirt. Tights and the utilitarian boots and accessories complete this look for the upcoming season.

Unusual Graphics

Photobucket

Unfortunately, I couldn't locate a cable knit with a double decker bus pattern (much to my chagrin), but I thought another unusual graphic sweater might do the trick. Miss Selfridge is the maker of this lovely duck pullover. Paired with the neutral oxford shoe, bright colored pant, and neutral bag, this overall set truly captures Karen's original look. For my personal touch, I added a neon earring, watch, and nail polish.

Next week we'll tackle Arthur Darvill aka Rory Williams - another current companion of the Doctor's - for our weekly Doctor Who fashion inspiration post.

Unconventional Styling - What to do with those pesky vacation tees?

Now that Summer is in its twilight, re-organization of our lives and our closets are in order. Recently, I've been weeding out all the pesky pieces of rarely worn clothing in my collection. One of the methods I try to employ to keep the size of my wardrobe small and to also maximize its usefulness is to often restyle. What is restyling? It's the habit of taking a piece of clothing in your wardrobe and styling as many outfits as possible around it. This practice is especially helpful for those who have limited space but want a change in their wardrobe from season to season.

In the recent downsizing of my own apparel, I realized the alarming amount of tees that I have accumulated over the years. Among these tees, I found that I had in my possession a few of those dreaded "My friend went to _____, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" tops. I know I'm not the only one who has these lying around the house, and I wanted to give you guys some ideas of what you could do with these all year round.

The first choice in my set is a testament to city that is very near and dear to me - Chicago. Strange Cargo, the company who designed this tee, is a homegrown company. Their Lake Michigan tee is a fresh take on the classic vacation t-shirt. I put together this set with a last ditch celebration of Summer in mind. It is also styled with a vintage twist in mind - of days long past when we traded friendship bracelets and the worst thing we had to worry about was remembering the sunscreen while laying out.

Fall Transition

Photobucket

This is a clear transitional outfit to take you from Summer to Fall. Popping colors make this outfit eye-catching. The fun colors are (not surprisingly) inspired by the New Orleans atmosphere. This set is also extremely functional - a feature that I often appreciate in an outfit.

The Travelin' Man

One of the most important aspects of traveling is being comfortable. Whether your preferred method of transportation is car, train, or plane, casual clothing is a must! It's also important to bring functional clothes while you're out wandering. When I travel, I like to remember to bring a jacket or sweater that can be incorporated into all of the outfits I've packed. Shoes that can go the distance and a versatile backpack are also important to the regular traveler. This Cleveland tee was the inspiration for the men's set. The colors are toned down enough to make the transition for Fall. I've also incorporated a pair of pants that are on trend with the current colored jeans fad.

I hope I was able to give you guys some insight on multipurposing otherwise non-functional pieces to keep your wardrobe small while having limitless outfit possibilities. Feel free to share your own examples of outfit re-purposing with me here or on Facebook.

So you want to dress like...
Matt Smith from 'Doctor Who'

Today I bring you a solo menswear post! I haven't done this yet on my blog, but it's always exciting to venture into something new.

I have to admit that my "geek" is showing again. Last night was the premiere of one of my favorite shows Doctor Who, and its stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill are somewhat of a group of fashion icons. They all have quirky and fresh outlooks on what to wear in the limelight. For this post, we'll take the star of the show - Matt Smith - and breakdown two of his unique looks.

On the Street

Inspired by the bright color scheme of the stripes on Matt's sweater, I put together this very Fall appropriate outfit. You can probably guess that Matt incorporates "hipster"-type pieces into his wardrobe. He often sports unusual accessories (like his hat pin) and is never without a good pair of sunglasses. He also doesn't shy away from color.

Photoshoot Savvy

Remember what I was saying about unusual accessories? Matt doesn't fail to push the envelope with this look that includes the key necklace accent. There is also no shortage of color with this look as well. I've again adapted this look from a Summer photoshoot to a functional Fall look for men.

I hope you enjoyed our little foray into geek fashion. I plan on highlighting more actors from this series, so if you're familiar with Doctor Who and would like to see certain pieces featured, please let me know here or on Facebook! For now, expect me to be back later this week with hot pieces for Fall.
